Unlimited Episodes, Download Reports, and Easier Editing

We've been a little heads down lately and forgot to post updates the last few months, so we're catching up with a longer summary of what we improved lately.

Here’s what changed in Fireside between late May and mid-October. Our two API posts from October cover the new episode endpoints, so this roundup covers everything else, plus a few API additions that weren’t in them.

Unlimited Episodes and Custom Domains on Every Paid Plan

  • No episode limits. Every plan lets you publish as many episodes as you like.
  • Custom domains on every paid plan, Starter included. Add yours from Domain Settings.
  • More accurate domain checks, so a working domain stays connected.

Download Reports by Month and Year

The Downloads page has new Monthly and Yearly tabs that show every episode’s downloads over time, along with your show’s totals. You can download the full history as a CSV.

  • Export your episode list, with hosts, guests, dates, durations, and downloads, from Episodes.
  • No missing Spotify days. Your charts now include days when an episode was only played on Spotify.
  • Large exports finish, even for shows with years of history.

Easier Episode Editing

  • Pasting keeps your formatting. Text from Google Docs, Pages, or the web keeps its links and formatting.
  • Chapters as you have them. Paste your chapter list the way it’s already written, and Fireside points out any line it couldn’t read.
  • A heads-up on long descriptions before some podcast apps would cut them off. Your feed and website still publish all of it.
  • Clearer messages when saving, so nothing you entered is quietly lost.

A Clearer Podcast Dashboard

  • Drafts, Scheduled, and Published. Your dashboard groups episodes the same way the episode list does.
  • Your links, ready to copy. Your website and RSS feed addresses are right on the dashboard.
  • Achievements are back, with your milestones and your progress toward the next one.

Better Image Handling

  • Transparency survives. Transparent images stay transparent instead of turning black.
  • Sharper headers. Header images keep much more of their original resolution.
  • A friendlier Image Library. Search your images, preview them full screen, and copy a link in one click.

See What an Import Will Do First

Before importing a feed, Fireside shows you what will happen: which episodes are new, which are already on Fireside, and which might need a look.

  • Re-importing adds only what’s new, instead of duplicating episodes you already have.
  • Imports run in the background, and Episodes shows the progress.
  • More feeds import cleanly, including Buzzsprout’s.

Small Refinements

  • Billing and account pages. The Billing page lists your invoices, and canceling your subscription is separate from closing your account.
  • Metrics during a break. Podcasts on hiatus can still see their metrics.
  • Your podcast website is easier to use with a keyboard or screen reader, and the Fancy themes now show hosts and guests.
  • Embed your player early. Before your first episode is out, it shows a “Coming Soon” card.
  • Studio on your phone is easier to get around.

More from the API

These weren’t in our October API posts. See the API docs for details.

  • Daily downloads. GET /api/v1/podcasts/:token/metrics/daily returns per-day downloads for a podcast, and GET /api/v1/podcasts/:token/episodes/:episode_token/metrics/daily does the same for one episode. Ranges default to the last 30 days and can cover up to 90.
  • Smaller pages. Every paginated endpoint accepts per_page, up to its existing page size.
  • What your feed publishes, the API returns. Episodes add guid, artwork_url, transcript_url, chapters_url, player_url, player_embed_code, soundbite, hosts, and guests. Podcasts add url, feed_url, type, categories, copyright, donation_url, and owner.
  • A higher rate limit. 120 requests per minute per key, up from 30.
  • Edit a key. Rename a key or change its access under Account › API Keys without breaking the tools that use it.

Under the Hood

  • Faster feeds. Your feed and tag pages load faster.
  • No downtime during updates. Studio and your site stay up while we ship new versions.
  • Share pages stay current the moment you change an episode.
  • Safer sign-in for your account.

Fixes

  • New episodes reach listeners the moment they publish.
  • Your show’s description reads correctly in podcast apps.
  • Patreon members who open their private feed in a browser see a readable page instead of an error.
  • Your Spotify link appears on your website as soon as Spotify approves your show.
  • Editing many episodes at once works again.
  • Audio exported from Adobe Audition and Premiere uploads without trouble.
  • Transcripts with accented characters display correctly.
  • Payment links in billing emails take you straight to updating your card.
  • Switching to yearly billing works smoothly.
