Today we rolled out an update to the way Fireside identifies podcast clients. We use the rules created by the Open Podcast Analytics Working Group to correctly parse the names of podcast clients (called user -agents) in order to classify their downloads. Correctly identifying them can also help us determine bogus downloads created by bots or services that shouldn't count as a real download.
As they update their user-agent definitions, we integrate these into our parsing algorithm, teaching it how to better identify valid downloads.
