An Update Regarding iTunes/Apple Podcasts Title Tags

Fellow podcasters,

I'm writing with an update regarding yesterday's iTunes/Apple Podcasts title tag situation, which I am now referring to as "Titlegate".

Some of you were unhappy with the change we made to meet Apple's request/suggestion that podcasters not put episode numbers in RSS feed titles, and instead use their new RSS tags to accomplish this.

I completely understand why you might not like this, and I agree that this change might not be something everyone wants to do right now (or ever).

One of my primary directives with Fireside is to empower users to make their own decisions about their podcasts as often and as much as possible. So, to address Titlegate as best as I can, I've added a checkbox that will allow you to opt-in to using these new tags. Initially, this checkbox will be deselected, meaning your podcast feed will not use the new tags at all.

In order to enable the new tags, visit Settings → General and scroll to the "Apple Podcasts Settings" section, where you can toggle this behavior on or off. This takes effect as soon as you save your settings, and affects all of your Podcast’s Episodes globally.

Happy podcasting!

Dan Benjamin
