This week, Caitlin Plant and Katelyn Doyle discuss the intersectionality of mental health. Intersectionality is “the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group, regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage.” When we apply the concept of intersectionality to mental health, we recognize that various factors intersect to influence an individual's overall mental health.
